4th of July Party Essential: DIY Floating Cooler

“Be a lot cooler if you did.” Show your buddies just how chill you really are this 4th of July weekend.

When you’re floating in the water soaking up the sun and your friend asks you to toss him a beer, bust out your floating cooler and take it easy. Make one at home on the cheap. Here’s how:

Step 1:

Pick up a foam noodle (pool toy), a few yards of nylon rope, and a plastic bin that has a “lip” over the top edges.

Step 2:

Measure the length and width of the bin. Using a pair of sharp scissors or a box cutter, cut the noodle into 4 pieces (2 for the long sides of the bin and 2 for the short sides).

Step 3:

Set the noodle pieces around your bin. String the rope through the middle of the noodle. Tighten the string and tie.

Step 4:

Create a leash for your cooler by making a loop with the remaining rope and tying it to the rope that secures the noodle around the bin.

This Independence Day, nestle your brews in a cold bed of ice and enjoy the freedom that your floating fridge gives you. It’d sure be a lot cooler if you did.
