One Last Trip Before School Starts
August is upon us, but there’s still time to get out for one last trip before school starts. Whether it’s a day trip, an overnight stay, or a weeklong vacation, make a plan to explore one more place on your bucket list.
Celebrate the long days of summer by venturing out to a new spot to watch the sunset, or get online and find a bed and breakfast that suits your fancy. For the adventurous spirits, investigate a new camping spot, perhaps one where you hike in, and treat yourself to a short sojourn from civilization.
To celebrate the end of summer and give kids one last hoorah, the j.k. livin Foundation takes students on trips to nearby attractions, including parks, beaches, and sporting events. Founded by Matthew and Camila McConaughey, the Foundation’s program focuses on fitness, wellness, nutrition and service. Designed to empower teens to make healthy choices and lead active lives, students of the j.k. livin Foundation participate in team-building activities that improve their mind-body connection.
Recently the j.k. livin Foundation in Dallas partnered with the Texas Rangers and took a group of students to Los Angeles for an overnight trip. They went to the Rangers-Dodgers game and to the beach, where they did yoga, played volleyball, and enjoyed the Pacific Ocean. Students in the L.A. area take trips to Camp Ubuntu, and hike at Temescal Canyon Park. Other Foundation groups have visited nearby sports camps to participate in archery, ropes courses, and other activities to build camaraderie. The Foundation has 24 programs, serving over 2,000 students throughout Texas, California, Louisiana, and Washington D.C.
Take a page from the book of the j.k. livin Foundation, and get your friends and family together for one more outing, you never know where you’ll end up or who you might meet along the way. Remember, as mcconaughey says, “Localize, customize, find the common denominator. Be at home in the world.”
